Reten helps local businesses send WhatsApp messages to their own customers: bills, reminders, thank-yous and offers. This page explains how a customer agrees to those messages, how we record that, and how anyone can stop them at any time.
Messages come from the business you visited, through Reten, on the official WhatsApp Business Platform from Meta. Reten does not sell or share your number with other businesses.
A business may message you only when it has your permission. You can give it by:
A purchase on its own is not permission for marketing messages. Messages about something you did, like a bill or a booking, may be sent as a service message.
Reten limits how often a business can message each customer: by default, no more than 3 messages in any 7 days. Automatic messages, like reminders and check-ins, aren’t sent between 9 PM and 9 AM India time.
Reply STOP to any message. Reten marks you as opted out straight away, and that business's marketing messages stop. Every message tells you how to do this. If you change your mind later, scan the business's QR code again or tell the business.
When you opt in or out, Reten keeps a record of when it happened and how (for example, by QR code, by the business, or by replying STOP). A business cannot overwrite your STOP by uploading your number again.
Businesses using Reten must only add customers who have agreed to hear from them, keep their messages relevant and respectful, and follow WhatsApp's Business and Commerce policies and Indian law. Reten may pause a business that doesn't.
How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy. The rules for businesses using Reten are in our Terms of Service.
